Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly planning to release a new privacy feature for Android users that will give people more control over their private conversations. Called Restricted Chat, it will allow you to keep selected chats only on your main smartphone and prevent them from appearing on linked devices such as WhatsApp Web. The feature is currently under development and was spotted by WABetainfo in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.36.5. It is not available for regular users yet and WhatsApp has not announced when it will be rolled out. The report says Restricted Chat builds on WhatsApp's existing Advanced Chat Privacy feature, which was introduced last year. Advanced Chat Privacy already gives users additional control over specific conversations. When enabled, participants cannot export the chat, media from the conversation is not automatically saved to the phone's gallery, and messages cannot be shared with Meta AI. The new Restricted Chat feature adds another layer of protection. Once a chat is restricted, it will remain available only on the user's primary phone. The Meta-owned app will not sync that conversation to linked devices. This means the chat will not appear on WhatsApp Web or another phone linked to the same WhatsApp account.
