System Setup: GC: Agilent 7890B MSD: 5977 MSD Sampler: 7697A Headspace sampler Current Status: System is fully cooled down (< 35 °C) with carrier gas flow active to protect the column. The Problem: Our system is registering a massive atmospheric leak showing around 15.8% O2. What we've checked/done so far: Checked and slightly torqued the column nuts at the back SSL inlet and the CFT (Capillary Flow Technology) splitter plate. Checked the headspace transfer line connection interface. Considering using a duster spray with MassHunter to pinpoint the exact leak, but wanted to ask for advice from anyone who has chased down severe air leaks on a similar HS-GC-MSD setup. Are there any hidden or common leak points on a 7890B / 7697A setup that I might be overlooking (like O-rings, transfer line ferrules, or pneumatic modules)? Any tips for a newcomer would be hugely appreciated.

Then, using dust off with a straw star spraying in all areas you suspect leaks might be present: Transfer line fitting Analyzer door manifold Inlet column fitting (spay and wait like a minute or two to”

  • “What did you do just prior to the leak? If you did some sort of maintenance, check that area first. If I came onsite to look at this the first thing I’m doing is using a leak detector at any carrier gas fittings post filter if you have one, inlet both and CFT. Then I’m changing the inlet septa assuming you have the type of transfer line that goes through the inlet septa. If you have a volatile”
