Hey y'all, cabin crew here and recently had a fume event on a A321Neo. I've been trying to research what the cause was and in my research, I've seen engine oil, hydraulic fluid, and ozone converter issues (hadn't heard that one before, but saw it on an FB post). Has anyone done maintenance on any of these reported fumes/odors planes and what do you usually find is the actual issue? I'm still down for the count and the company is being evasive 🙄. If you don't feel comfortable posting, feel free to DM me instead. Thanks a bunch 💕

  • [comment u/FlubbedJohn] Every situation is different but usually oil from the engine finds its way out due to the specific design of the A321 NEOs engines in particular. Usually it will seep out past the front nose cone seal.

  • [comment u/drone_driver24] Its a widespread issue that's been going on for years, not just 321 NEO's.

  • “Yes and yes, 321s with P&W engines have had a lot of odor problems in the past, we do eventually find out what’s causing it, but sometimes it can take us a while to pinpoint where”

  • “Hell, I had an avionics cooling fan smoke out one time, that was fun to troubleshoot down since nobody had any description or location besides “it smells burning” and the fan checked good when I ran it until it shid itself after being on another 2h.”

Usually it will seep out past the front nose cone seal. What this means is that it will get sucked into the front and then core of the engine and eventually into the aircraft packs. There are other places as well throughout the engine as well as other ca”

The common ‘dirty sock smell’ is probably the most common typically happens when oil is leaking and burned thru the bleed airstream. APU could be leaking oil which gets into the bleed air intake causing fumes in the cabin. The engine oil can be over serviced. When the plane makes turns, the excess oil will leak and get into the bleed system",
