I'm 18 and finishing my second month at Allstate. I have my P&C license and eventually want to open my own agency. I produced around $30K in premium my first month and I'm hoping to hit $20K this month. I make $15/hr plus commission. Most of my day is spent calling our existing book of business trying to cross sell auto to home and renters customers. I can get people interested, but Allstate is almost always more expensive. I literally just quoted a guy and we were $1,000 more on one policy and $200 more on the other. I asked him who he was insured with out of curiosity and he said an independent agency. It's honestly getting discouraging because I want to produce more, but I feel like there's only so much I can do when our prices aren't competitive. I feel like at an independent I'd have a better chance of making sales because I could actually run people through multiple carriers instead of just one.I'm about to start going through our auto customers who don't have home with us and our win back lists, so hopefully I'll have better luck there.Another thing is I feel like I was just thrown on the phone without much training. I want to actually be taught how to sell and improve, not just be handed a list and told to call.I'm considering moving to a larger independent agency with company provided leads and a service team so I can focus more on selling and making more money.For...

  • “30K your first month at 18 is legit most people I know were doing half that. I'd stay at least 6 months though captive experience looks better on paper than people think when you go to interview at an IA”

  • “I'm considering moving to a larger independent agency with company provided leads and a service team so I can focus more on selling and making more money. This is going to be extremely, extremely rare in the independent agency world. Independent agencies don't have billions in marketing like the Allstates and State Farms to bring in leads for the agency and make the phone ring. IF an independe”

  • “It sounds like your production has been great so far as a new agent. However, what value are you offering as a salesperson if you’re only coming up with a price and relying on it being better than what they’re paying now? Those are slam dunk deals that do happen but they aren’t helping you become a better salesperson. Do you think the service you provide by inputting data and saying, “how does tha”
