Now I'm curious how others are handling the Buy 3 Get 1 for $1 tire deals. Not the first rodeo for us with GM. But I just heard this morning that Ford is running something like it right now. A ford tech we know was looking for tires and was told by his parts manager that they could get their employee discount, and first responder discount, and the B3G1 all together without paying any labor as long as it was on a repair order. When General Motors switched to this instead of rebates we immediately set the ground rules that employees could only use this deal when paying full retail and labor. We only use suggested retail from GM when pricing our tires, so the margins are not great and you really make almost zero profit with a deal like this if you are not upselling other services while the vehicle is in. Any other absurd uses of the deal that you have ran into?

  • [comment u/snellk2] Ford PM here. Ford is reimbursing full cost of the 4th tire and doesn’t care about selling price. I’m giving employees their discount and the deal.

  • “Discounts don't stack here. Employees pay $10 over cost or promo price, whichever is cheaper. As much as I want to take care of our folks, I also don't run a department with the goal of losing money - which stacking discounts like that would.”

  • “I created a op code for service. Advisor would make two op code lines for the b3g1 bill three tires at normal pricing and then the second op code for the one tire to be billed at cost of the tire and then the service advisor would apply a discount that automatically bills the tire at $1. Discount automatically put into the GL advertisement account and when I get the credit, I would apply to the sa”

  • “Stellantis only reimburses 50% so you have to go into the settings and adjust your margins to make sure you aren't losing money. Service also needs to be aware that no additional coupons or discounts are allowed to stack with the buy 3. We also do not price match. Stellantis offers it but we don't because after you jump through all the hoops you end up just breaking even it's definitely not worth”

  • “The buy 3 sale is its own discount.  I tried once to calculate my final net on the tires after reimbursement and do employee pricing from that, but it just wasn't workable.”
