Commenters describe Infosys as being notorious for advertising UK contract roles at well below market rates, allegedly as a pretext to hire their own overseas consultants for even less pay.

Anyone else had the Avaloq BA role, Inside IR35 via Infosys email? £350 inside, for a role that paid £650-£700 outside only 7 years ago. At what point does the market break because people just give up?

  • [comment u/actualcompile] InfoSys are notorious for this: put out a role paying well under market rates. When nobody applies, or they don’t deem the applicants qualified enough, they use it as an excuse to bring in one of their consultants from overseas and pay them even less…

  • [comment u/3rd_CultureKid] And why are UK companies going via the large offshore consultancies?? F*cking infosys? Creaming off the top of the rate while the uk contractors continue the race to the bottom!

  • “If people keep accepting these roles it sends the message that people will accept such rates”

  • “I saw a role advertised as <£200 a day outside recently on LinkedIn. It had over 100 applications according to LinkedIn. That's like basically "brand new graduate" money for a company realistically. I even applied for it! Aad didnt hear a peep back! I am convinced a lot of these are just BS roles to get CV and other details from people for AI-training or scam call purposes.”

  • “Just don't accept that rate. Realise people are sometimes unable to but accepting low rates keeps them going down. It's a combination of agencies upping their cut and organisations taking the p*ss. Let them know your worth. It helps us all help each other”

  • “Same happening in the delivery world. I'm still just about managing to get outside roles / tolerable rates but it's certainly below what was common 10 years ago. I'm hoping to continue on for another couple of years and then yes... I'll just give up and retire early albeit on less money than I would have hoped for.”
