Customers report that Lenovo is not yet able to ship devices pre-registered for Microsoft's new Windows Autopilot device preparation system, which is a blocker for adoption.

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/intunecustomersuccess/moving-from-windows-autopilot-to-windows-autopilot-device-preparation/4557269 While I do see the nice features of APDP compared against classic Windows Autopilot, it just feels like I'd be jumping the gun to start actually moving certain setups to APDP. It's also been so much work getting Windows Autopilot setup the way I like it - with one form of management for shared, self-deploying, or user-based devices. It doesn't even work poorly or anything - but hearing from MS that "Future engineering investments will focus on Windows Autopilot device preparation" is a bit of a gut punch... Like if I don't start moving then I'm slowly being left behind. Is it time to start taking AP DP seriously? Is anyone here working on making the move to it, or are we mostly sticking with classic Windows Autopilot (v1)?

  • [comment u/Wartz] I can't get devices preregistered from Dell / Lenovo, so what's the point?

  • “I inherited v2 when I took over and it's not bad. Manually entering in corp ID with just the SN is cake compared to running scripts to run hash CSVs. Sometimes it doesn't work on my end so we run scripts to pull the corp ID CSV. Ran a demo with device association and it's the best out of the two. No scripts. Just toss your USB in there, click one button, CSV shoots straight into it. Procs off of”
