Pfizer Severance Question

Post

My husband has spent 12 years at Pfizer, mostly in overseas marketing. He is concerned about potential layoffs. We are financially OK, but I am concerned about losing healthcare coverage. My question is, do severance packages include healthcare, and if so, for how long? I realize that cobra will be available if we need it, but due to some health issues, I’m trying to find out how long our current healthcare coverage will last in the event of a layoff

  • “You get to keep your insurance at your normal premium for two years or until you get a new job. Your husband can search “separation package” on the internal sharepoint site and can get all this info plus a calculator of what you can expect his severance to be.”

  • “An email went around called “Important Update: Changes to Pfizer US Separation Plan”. It outlines the medical benefit as well as other severance benefits. According to that email, you get one year of continuing coverage (until you find a new employer). You still have to cover your share of the premium (ie. You still pay whatever is being withheld per pay period, but not the full COBRA amount). You”

  • “Your husband should access the Separation Plan for his region. It covers all things severance and benefits. It's located with all the other HR related policies. If he's been there 12 years, he knows the system I'm referencing.”

  • “We got an email earlier this year. If he gets laid off now, you’ll have the healthcare for two years. Starting next year it’s reduced to one year & the severance package also shrinks from 10 weeks + 3 weeks for each year of employment to 10 years + 2 weeks per”
