Highlighted: the lines this signal was extracted from

Hi redditors! I came across a Snapchat news this week that might interest you. A German court ruled on September 17 that Snap can't use what people tell My AI, its chatbot, to pick the ads they see. On under 18 accounts, alcohol and gambling were even switched on as ad topics by default. And people tell a chatbot pretty personal stuff, like their health or their love life, so that's a lot of private info ending up in ad targeting. Every time Snap breaks the ruling, it risks up to 250,000 euros. I thought it was worth sharing because it's not the first time an ad platform has gotten creative with our data. Meta does the same thing: since December, what people say to Meta AI is used to pick the ads they see on Facebook and Instagram. Just not in Europe, where it isn't allowed. I've never run ads on Snap myself, but I'm curious to hear how it's been for those of you who have.
