Highlighted: the lines this signal was extracted from

For context, I started working at Target at the end of March and qualified for benefits after my first 90 days (over 25 average hours) and they sent me a healthcare plan that I signed up for and sent me my medical card. I also started paying for it out of my paycheck. 2 months later I received a random letter from Target stating that I lost my eligibility and that i lost coverage 3 weeks prior. So I was basically without healthcare for 3 weeks and had no idea. I tried everything I could to talk to my supervisors, HR at my store, and benefits help center phone line. Nobody knew anything or were willing to help me figure it out. The only info I got was someone on the phone saying I was demoted. After sending a ticket to the benefits center and finally getting an email back, I was apparently demoted without any knowledge as well. This was the email I received: "Coverages was dropped from 08/23/2026 because of change in eligibility. TM Bene group was changed from STFD to STPD effective 08/23/2026. this happened due to the dependent audit data changed effective 08/23/2026." This answer told me nothing and they explained nothing. How am I even supposed to know what that means? Is it illegal that target took away my healthcare without notice? I'm very stressed out trying to figure out what to do for healthcare now. I have been a loyal employee with nothing but positive feedback...

  • “I used to work at target, this means your average hours are not enough to make you full time and to qualify for benefits. You should talk with your managers about increasing your hours.”

  • “It sounds like you dropped from full time to part time status. Is that what happened?”

    u/princessm142338 points · Sep 14, 2026View

  • “You fell under the ACA threshold of 30+ hours average per week during whatever measurement period Target uses. The letter you recieved in the mail was likely your COBRA packet, which can also serve as notice for this change. You may still be eligible to elect COBRA depending on how long it's been since you were notified.”

  • “Are you just a regular associate? If so, you weren’t demoted. Your hours fluctuated and were not being scheduled for enough time. Did you change availability for any reason?”

    u/granters02171817 points · Sep 14, 2026View

  • “Did they stop taking healthcare premiums out of your paycheck? Did they give you back any of the premiums you had deducted when you didn’t have health insurance but didn’t know it?”
