I have an automation that utilises messaging new enquiries, and I've been using Twilio because it is purported to be developer friendly, and I haven't even scratched the surface of it's capabilities. One feature I'd love to chip away at is having an AI answer calls during outside of business hours, but I suspect that will take quite some time to figure out. In the meantime I want to sell this new enquiry messaging service, but Twilio obviously costs more than WhatsApp which is completely free. My only hesitation is hearing people struggling to get WhatsApp to work as they want it it with OAuth2 issues, Meta blocking communications for whatever reasons, needing to reach out to their own support staff, etc. I understand it wouldn't have the capabilities of having an AI answering calls and responding, but when I'm trying to sell these automations to others, I want to make sure I can give it to them as cheaply as possible. Does anyone have experience using both and can give me some feedback regarding the issues with WhatsApp or Twilio?

  • “We run WhatsApp for clients through Twilio, so here's what it looks like in practice. Like koraynar said, Twilio isn't the alternative to WhatsApp, it's one way to get on it. And the API isn't free like the app. Our setup: - buy the number on Twilio and register it as a WhatsApp sender, connected to the client's Meta Business account - get one template approved for the first message, somet”

I built a workflow that uses both, Twilio for US numbers and WhatsApp for foreign numbers. But so far i haven’t been able to use the WhatsApp portion of the workflow because of this whole authorization of”

  • “The thing I'd weigh before switching is that WhatsApp's 'free' only covers the app on your phone. On the business side, Meta charges per conversation in most markets, and the real cost is the setup and upkeep: business verification, getting templates approved, and keeping the number from getting restricted if a few recipients report the messages. Twilio as the provider with WhatsApp as the channel”

  • “Adding to the others: the real choice is "through a provider" or "direct on Meta's Cloud API", and WhatsApp is not free on the business side either way. Through Twilio you pay Meta's per-message rate plus Twilio's own fee on top, and you get one bill and one API for SMS and WhatsApp. Direct, you skip that fee, but you handle the Meta side yourself: business verification, number registration, tem”

  • “WhatsApp is cheaper but Meta approvals and template rejections will eat your time so price in support while Twilio just works but costs per message. Which one are you leaning toward?”
