Hi everyone! i had my first screw up of the year, it was my first time I had to pickup a load from delta in jfk. Because of the dims and weight my first option was to send a flatbed, but when the driver showed up, Delta told him “we’re unable to load open trailers for safety reasons”. usually when it’s an airport, i just have to request a permit to load open trailers, or it just take longer than usual while they find a spot to load it. But this is the first time they straight up gave me a hard NO. Long story short, i had to pay for a TONU, had to find a dry van at 10pm to pickup in under 2 hours, plus detention. What other situations should I be keeping in mind? thank you all, i gotta sleep its almost 4am

  • “I move some Kintetsu / Delta Cargo loads for my custy delivering to the ATL and ORD airports, and generally they don't want regular flatbeds or stepdecks, but will load a conestoga. All of the operators from our fleet are TSA certified or have an active TWIC, but the airport people never ask for either unless cargo needs to be screened. If you find yourself in a dire need of a truck for airport,”

  • “That TONU and the 10 p.m. recovery were expensive, but the reusable asset is the exception rule this creates. For airport freight, I’d record the airline or handling agent, open-deck restrictions, permit requirements, loading limitations and after-hours recovery contact against the facility - not only this load. The next booking can then trigger confirmation before dispatch. Which part consumed”
