Hello, I stayed in a Hilton in Amsterdam in August and paid my bill in full before I left. At the desk they tried to charge me more than what the original booking email said. I was part of a travel group that had negotiated a rate and they kept insisting I owed them more. This was over the course of several days, they kept calling our room telling us to come down and pay more money. It really felt like the woman at the desk was trying to scam us because she kept changing the amount we owed. It wasn’t until our travel group coordinator showed her the original contract that she finally backed off. I’ve been home for a month now and they keep sending me emails saying I owe them more! I paid the amount in our contract so I‘m not sending them a penny more but now they are threatening to “escalate“ the issue with their finance department. My question is, can they actually do any harm legally speaking if I don’t pay this money they’re trying to extort out of me? Never staying in a Hilton again, that’s for sure. My credit card company is already aware of the issue and any unauthorized charges will be handled immediately.

  • “No, and it shouldn’t impede you from staying at a Hilton again. It could have been something as simple as just a miscommunication between the tour operator and the sales department and the front desk. If you have these concerns why haven’t you communicated with the tour operator? The person who countersigned the contract on behalf of Hilton? The front desk or general manager? Or corporate?”

  • “Contact the operator who negotiated the agreed to price you paid. Tell the hotel to do the same.”

  • “I have this happen at least once a week, its impossible to gage the situation without seeing the folio and the contract. 9 times out of 10 the guest is typically misunderstanding something or is missing information. The 10th time reservations usually will have routed something wrong but a front office manager should be able to pick that out immediately. A great example came up this year, the town”
