Just got an offer for a WET Equipment Engineer role at TSMC Arizona and I’m pretty torn.I’ve heard the workload and pressure there can be pretty intense, especially for equipment engineers. Is WET really that bad?Mostly curious about the actual hours, on-call/weekend work, management, and work-life balance. I currently have a stable engineering job in California, so moving to Arizona is a pretty big decision.Would love to hear from anyone who works there or used to work there. Would you do it again?

  • [comment u/goodtrymoddies] I really don’t want to scare you but it’s truly and thoroughly awful. I used to be in a wet module and I lost fucking sleep. Honestly. It ruined my life for a solid year before I got some self respect and left the module.

  • [comment u/mrboofington] Everything you read about tsmc is true and then some. If you want to live to work that is the place to be.

The on call schedule, putting out fires (tools go down), the constant stream of pings and messages when something happens. What killed me wasn’t losing sleep while on call,”

  • “Wasn’t in WET, but had friends that were. Absolutely terrible. There’s a reason they have an opening and have always had openings going back to 2021. Turnover is nuts.”

  • “As an 18 year wet etch module owner I learned that this is the law of the land in any fab: wet etch is the cause of and solution to all of the fabs problems. Basically you get implicated in every quality event because every wafer will go through your module at least once and possibly dozens of times through its life cycle. So the easiest thing to do is to blame the wet module first and then work y”
