Hi.I’m based in the UK and I’m starting to sell perfumes and I’ve noticed how a huge amount of my audience is based overseas, international. I’m struggling with the shipping side because perfumes are classed as dangerous goods due to the alcohol content. I’ve contacted private couriers such as DG parcel but it’s expensive & their reviews are terrible & they don’t pick up their calls. So not sure about them. I’ve heard that UPS can work out. But they require you to set up a business account/set-up for shipping these internationally, which is making it difficult as I’m currently just a small private individual seller. Would I need to set up a sole trader account/GOV.I need some advice on how to get started to sell perfumes internationally. For those of you in the UK who sell perfumes/fragrances internationally: Which courier do you use? Do you have a business account? did you get set up to ship perfumes as dangerous goods? Are there any specialist couriers or shipping platforms you’d recommend? Is there a way to do this as an individual/small seller rather than having to set up a full business account?Sole trader? I’m specifically interested in legitimate/fully compliant ways of shipping perfumes internationally, rather than trying to get around the dangerous goods rules. Would really appreciate hearing how other small sellers handle this. 🙏

  • “Perfume is one of those categories where I'd get the shipping process nailed down before trying to scale internationally. The carrier needs to explicitly accept the goods, and there can be packaging, labeling and documentation requirements depending on destination and service. I'd probably set the business side up properly even if you're small, because dangerous goods shipping gets awkward fast if”
